Where does a European dropshipping supplier ship from?
Start with the stock, not the website. A supplier with goods in an EU warehouse can typically reach consumers within a few working days, and the goods have usually already cleared customs. Parcels from outside the EU often take longer, can be held at customs and may bring unexpected charges. For fragile homeware, a longer journey also means a higher risk of breakage.
Ask where orders actually ship from, not where the company is registered: a European address does not always mean European stock. The answers tell you which delivery time you can safely promise your customers.
- Which country is the shipping warehouse in?
- How long from order to dispatch, and from dispatch to delivery?
- Does every parcel have tracking you can pass on to your customer?
- Which countries do they deliver to?
What happens when glass or porcelain arrives broken?
Glassware, porcelain sets and ceramic mugs sell well online, but only if they arrive intact. Ask how single orders are packed: inner boxes, dividers, enough filling. A supplier used to shipping full cartons to shops may not pack a single teacup with the same care.
Agree in writing what happens when an item arrives broken or wrong: the proof needed, the reporting deadline, replacement or credit, and where returns go. Your customer buys from you, so the supplier's terms must fit your own returns policy. Responsibilities per model are explained in dropshipping vs wholesale.
Is the product data good enough for your webshop?
Your product pages are only as good as the supplier's data. Homeware buyers want exact dimensions, capacity, materials and care information. Missing details lead to questions and returns.
Check that you may use the supplier's photos and that they are sharp enough to zoom in on. Selling in several countries? Product texts in more than one language save a lot of work.
- Dimensions, capacity, weight and material per item.
- Care information, such as dishwasher or induction suitability.
- Photo usage rights and image resolution.
- Barcodes, where your sales channels require them.
Invoicing, VAT and stock updates
In dropshipping, two sales take place: the supplier sells to you, and you sell to your customer. Ask how the supplier invoices you and check that each invoice shows the supplier's VAT number and, for cross-border sales within the EU, yours as well. B2B supplies to a valid VAT number in another EU country are usually invoiced with reverse charge, but in dropshipping the country the goods ship from and the country they go to can change how VAT applies to each sale, so check your set-up with your accountant first.
Selling an item that is out of stock means a cancelled order and sometimes a bad review. Find out how often stock levels are updated and how you hear about price changes, delays and discontinued items. A contact who replies within a working day matters more than a long product list.
How do you test a supplier and spot red flags?
Before listing a full range, place a small test order to your own address, including at least one fragile item. Note the delivery time, open the parcel as your customer would, check the invoice and ask a question to see how quickly the supplier answers.
Walk away, or dig deeper, if you see these warning signs:
- No company registration or VAT number on the website or invoices.
- Vague answers about where the warehouse is.
- Delivery promises that do not match where the goods ship from.
- No written terms for breakage, returns or late delivery.
- Pressure to pay for a membership before you have seen a single product.
